New Mexico Reading Retreat 2025

LET’S GO TO New Mexico!

We’re going back to Albuquerque, folks! This reading retreat will be from Feb 7-9, 2025. Get ready for good books, new friends, and an idyllic farm location. We’ll be going to Los Poblanos Historic Inn & Organic Farm, an Albuquerque-based boutique hotel that’s been featured in CN Traveller, Vogue, and Architectural Digest!

Come to a reading retreat in Albuquerque from Feb 7-9, 2025.

Dreams really do come true! For our next Book Huddle reading retreat, we’re headed to Albuquerque, NM, staying at the stunning Los Poblanos Historic Inn & Organic Farm.

This enchanting venue, a multiple TripAdvisor Traveler’s Choice award winner, offers the perfect setting to kick off the new year. While the lavender won’t be in bloom during our stay, we’ll still be surrounded by 25 acres of serene cottonwood trees, formal gardens, wandering peacocks, and complimentary bikes to explore the grounds.

Expect a weekend of deep relaxation, meaningful book discussions, nourishing meals, and new friendships—an ideal way to reset for the year ahead.

You'll enjoy quiet moments for reflection, quality tea, and the beauty of nature, all while connecting with fellow readers. I can’t wait to welcome you!

  • "I can't wait to attend more."

“New friends, good books, and a weekend of relaxation? Yes, please! I had a blast at the reading retreat and I can’t wait to attend more. I found myself in a room full of strangers talking like we’d known each other our entire lives. It was warm and welcoming and the most fun I’ve ever had. Bookworms make the best friends and no one will convince me otherwise. 10/10 would recommend!”

    Kat C. from Tacoma, WA

  • "I booked the next retreat when I got home."

“The retreat was the perfect mixture of activities and relaxing. Many of us have different book preferences, but we all shared a love of reading. I had such a great time I booked the next retreat when I got home.”

    Katie F. from Silverdale, WA

  • "A weekend I will remember."

"It’s hard to explain the magic of what the book huddle weekend was! From walks in the woods to in-depth discussions about our favorite books, it is a weekend I will remember for quite some time. It’s hard to believe we all started the huddle as strangers; I walked away from the weekend having made connections I will treasure for a long time."

    Erica L. from Seattle, WA

  • "I'M SO GLAD TO HAVE CONNECTED WITH PEOPLE FROM ALL OVER."

This Book Huddle event was such a joyful time to be a part of! As a former agoraphobe, it was an extremely comfortable, yet exciting weekend. The activities were well thought out and the food was amazing, but the best part was easily the company! I’m so glad to have been able to connect with people from all over, share our thoughts on books, and add an excessive number of titles to my ever growing tbr.

    Hannah N. from Phoenix, AZ

  • "Every single person i met was exceptional and kind."

"The connections made on this trip were truly wonderful and every single person I met was exceptional and kind!"

    Jacqueline G. from Austin, TX

Spend a weekend reading and relaxing at an idyllic historic inn and organic farm!

Our retreat will be at Los Poblanos Historic Inn & Organic Farm from Fri Feb 7 - Sun Feb 9, 2025. Vogue described the venue as “the Albuquerque Farm that might make you rethink your life,” and I’m beyond excited to experience it with you.

Here are some additional details about the space:

  • It’s a historic boutique inn and farm, located about 20 minutes by car from the Albuquerque airport

  • The hotel is on 25 acres of land, complete with cottonwood trees, lavender fields, and formal gardens

  • The original ranch was owned in the 19th century, and it was reassembled in the 1930s

  • It offers wheelchair access and reduced mobility rooms

  • We’re going to have exclusive access to the La Quinta building, which has their on-site library (that also has a bar!) and an art gallery space

  • The rooms are scattered in various converted buildings across the property

  • Outside of our exclusive area, there are plenty of places to read and relax, and many of the rooms have patios

  • There’s 24/7 security and a strong adherence to health and safety protocols

  • The majority of ingredients used in our meals are sourced directly from the farm

  • We’ll have complimentary wifi the entire weekend

Once you’re in, you’ll vote on your RETREAT book track!

For the retreat’s books, we’ll focus on recently published works. This way, we’ll all read the books together for the first time!

All attendees can vote on the retreat’s fiction, fantasy, mystery, or romance book, and then you’ll pick your genre book track. Book options will prioritize women and BIPOC authors and LGBTQ+ storylines.

Based on your book track, you’ll be assigned to a group of people who also chose that book, and you’ll meet throughout the retreat to discuss your book.

It’s encouraged to read your book in full before the retreat starts for maximum discussion opportunities. And, rest assured, our book will be shipped to you before the retreat begins! Our past retreat books have included…

Book club! Nature walks! Afternoon tea!

Just like our other retreats, this weekend is whatever you want to be. All activities are encouraged, but nothing is mandatory, so you can make this weekend exactly as you’d like it.

Want to read all weekend? Go for it. Feel like partaking in a group astrology session? Step right up. Want to learn more about the historical property? Partake in a guided tour.

The itinerary will be solidified to the needs and desires of ticket holders, but in the meantime, here’s what I have in mind:

    • Afternoon check-in (and a thank-you welcome bag from me!)

    • First discussion with your weekend book group

    • Buffet dinner (with dietary restrictions accommodations)

    • S'mores under the stars!

    • Breakfast buffet on site

    • All-day private area with soft seating reserved for us to read!

    • In the late morning, second meeting your book group!

    • Guided tour of the property, including the gardens and greenhouse

    • Afternoon tea serving with a seasonal assortment of sweet and savory bites

    • Private book fair hosted by a local bookstore

    • Delicious three-course dinner served family style

    • Group astrology session with a guest astrologist

    • Cozy reading for the rest of the evening

STUNNING PROPERTY

Pet sheep by day; count sheep by night.

Here’s what I love about this property: All rooms are beautiful, and no rooms are alike. They’re all situated in various buildings; some are in renovated hacienda styles (hand-plastered walls, fireplaces, New Mexican artwork) and some are more modern and located near their lotus pond and gardens. A dream!

For the retreat, you can choose between a solo room or a shared room. For the shared room option, there are different prices for a queen/king bed or a comfortable sofa bed. All guestrooms include:

  • Luxury bedding and modern bathrooms

  • Custom-crafted furnishings and Tivoli alarm clocks

  • Robes by Coyuchi Organic

  • Signature lavender spa amenities made with lavender that's grown right on the farm

  • Operable windows with cross-draft for some of that crisp desert air!

  • Wet bar and cable TV

  • An in-room safe

If you choose a shared room or sofa bed ticket, you’re welcome to submit a request for a roommate after you secure your retreat ticket. We’ll have a Discord set up for all attendees, so there will be ample time to meet your roommate before the retreat begins!

  • "Everything I'd hoped for."

"The Book Huddle retreat was everything I'd hoped for and more! Every detail was perfect, from the location to the types of activities to the food. It was clear that so much thoughtfulness was given to our happiness. It was such a joy to spend a weekend chatting and laughing with people who love reading as much as I do. My TBR list just grew exponentially! I can't wait to attend another retreat."

Angela D. from Los Angeles, CA

  • "I felt so included."

"You never know what kind of people you're going to meet at an event you found via TikTok...but I found my kind of people at Book Huddle. Lauren and Jake made us all feel so welcome, included, and gave us the means to make friends and connections with people all over the country. I was worried I was going to end up with a bunch of nerds, and I did - book nerds! My kind of nerds! Getting to interact with people who've read and loved the same books as you makes you feel seen.”

    Sam E. from Portland, OR

  • "I'm so glad I went."

"I really enjoyed the retreat! I’m so glad I went and it was very enjoyable. Thank you for putting it together!! I will definitely be joining more retreats and wish I was going to New Mexico!"
